One Project Over, Another Ongoing, and A New One To Begin

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Today’s the last day of NaBloPoMo and I made it! Woohoo!!! I have Megan to thank for getting involved with this from a Tweet she posted on October 31!

I wrote a new poem today for November’s Poem-A-Day Chapbook Challenge (PAD) but have plenty more to go. I have a whole bunch that I’ve written and need to type up. The last thing I need is to lose them.

And now, I have Robin to thank for telling me about The Great Interview Experiment 2009 (GIE) last night. So of course I signed up for it. It shouldn’t take nearly as long as NaBloPoMo, so why not go check it out and sign up, too? Be a joiner, like me!

Home Stretch

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Tomorrow is the last day of both NaBloPoMo and the Poetic Asides November Poem-A-Day Chapbook Challenge. Thank fucking goodness. I’m not as concerned with the poetry challenge because they don’t all have to be written by tomorrow. Participants have the entire month of December to revise the poems and then submit it for the chapbook contest (which I’m not doing; I’m planning to take more than a month for revisions). So I have plenty of time to write them and because they offer daily prompts, at least I have ideas.

As for NaBloPoMo, I do have ideas, but I just don’t have the energy to write something that’s fairly well thought-out in just a few minutes and then hit the “Publish” button. If I do this again next year, which I probably will, we will not be doing any traveling during the month of November. On the other hand, if we do have travel plans, I won’t be doing NaBloPoMo. It’s just been way too much for me.

It hasn’t helped that I haven’t had enough sleep/haven’t been sleeping well for the past few weeks. I’m absolutely exhausted today. Again. Each day I’m just that much bitchier and not so gentle with my state of mind. I’m not giving myself any mental breaks, like I remind my friends who do or do not have bipolar to do when they’re going through a rough patch. Why? Because I have these crazy, unrealistically high standards for myself. So, I’m ending this post now in order to try practicing what I preach.

What Kind of City Dweller Are You?

You Are a Hip and Artsy City Dweller

You love that the city is always changing, and you’re always on top of the latest trends.

You don’t try to deliberately keep up, you’re just naturally curious. And because of your curiosity, you discover hidden gems just before they get popular.

You truly love the city, and you’re inspired by the urban landscape every day. Living in the middle of the hustle and bustle keeps you creative.

Even if you aren’t an artist, you can’t help but take pictures, write, make art, or play music. All of the energy around you is contagious!

What the hell? It’s the weekend and I think a lot of people take breaks from blogs/blogging on the weekends. I’m not out of stuff to write, just don’t feel like writing too much.

Freekibblekat.com

Friday, November 27th, 2009

A lot of what you see on my blog I copied from other people’s blogs. For example, I got the Human Calendar from Sheri, my DandyID I got from Robin, and I would love to know what WordPress plugin Megan uses for the Current Photo on her blog. I was using the Photo of the Day Widget but it’s been broken since yesterday. I started using Flickr Widget, which shows your latest uploads, so at least it doesn’t show one of my old hockey pictures every day, but I can’t figure out how to center the thing in the sidebar. *sigh* Oh, well.

FreeKibbleKat.com

Enough of that. Today, in lieu of Friday Cat Blogging, I’d like to tell everyone about Freekibblekat.com, which I got from Robin’s site. It’s a fun little site (see the badge and link in my left sidebar, or click the kitty here on the right) where you’re asked a different cat trivia question each day. Whether or not you answer correctly, 10 pieces of kibble will be donated to 13 different shelters. The program began in Oregon by a 12-year-old girl (figures, right?) and actually started off as a way to help feed homeless dogs. Freekibblecat.com sprouted from that program. On the site there’s a link to feed the doggies, too. Please visit both sites and have fun while helping feed dogs and cats. They have a variety of banners you can place on your own blog. And be sure to tell all your friends about the sites, too!
