Daily Star Wars Trivia Returns!

of the overwhelming total of 11 people who voted in my last poll, 7 of you want me to bring back the Daily Star Wars Trivia Tournaments.  instead of putting it in a link in a sticky post, i’ve added the link in the Navigation menu in the sidebar.  note that when you click on the link to play, you will get a pop-up.
there’s nothing i can do about it, and i don’t want to upgrade my
FunTrivia.com account.  consider yourselves warned!

i will also add a link to the Hall of Fame (dead link, have to recreate in WP, 12/12/05) so you can see the past year’s winners.  future winners will be added, and i’ll post an entry at the end of each month to announce the new winner.  there’s no winner for November because i took down the link.

Cleaning Up the Sidebar

i’ve cleaned this up as much as i can, i think, without having to create more pages.  most stuff is now listed under Menu, so hopefully the blog won’t take as long to load, especially when LibraryThing or Tag-Board is down.  my proudest accomplishment, such as it is, is the Tagboard (that does not contain pop-ups).  to leave a tag, click on the link and a Tagboard-sized window opens up with the Tagboard on it!  it’s so cool.  i know.  i’m a geek.

Blogarithm.com

instead of using NotifyList, i’ve decided to try using Blogarithm.com for anyone who wants to receive an e-mail when i update my blog.  the subscriber automatically receives a daily e-mail, which Blogarithm.com calls a BlogMail, that contains a list of links and excerpts to any blog s/he is subsribed to.  you can access the past 5 entries for each of your subscription blogs, as well as e-mail the entries to anyone you’d like–all this direct from your BlogMail.  no logging in to any feed or RSS reader sites–it all comes to you!

do the blogs you’re interested in not have a Blogarithm.com badge?  no problem.  just go to Blogarithm.com and enter the URL.  simple as that.  while you’re checking out their site, go ahead and send yourself a sample BlogMail to see just how cool this is.  reading your blogs is now as easy as reading your e-mail!

Blogroll & Links

here’s what i’ve done:  i’ve added the blogs on my all links page into my blogroll, but since there’s a ton of them, i have it set to display a random 20 at a time.  the only links i didn’t add are like, Star Wars links and stuff like that.  you can just click on "view all links" (dead link, may recreate, 12/12/05) to see those.

New Blog Toys!

today i discovered BlinkList, which works just like del.icio.us with a few differences.  for one, the name is much easier to remember.  you also have the option to make some of your links private (like, you know, for certain free sites on the Web), and you can e-mail the link to your friends as you bookmark them.  i’ve started my own BlinkList, which is nowhere near finished that you can see here.  there’s also a link in the sidebar under "Blogrolls & Links."

speaking of that, today i came up with the brilliant idea of merging all of my links pages into one page.  duh.  i don’t know why it took me this long to come up with that.  the link is still listed under "Blogrolls & Links" but is now called “view all links” (dead link, may recreate, 12/12/05).

another site i found is called LibraryThing, which allows you to catalog your books online.  you can list up to 200 books, and while the site is in beta, you can pay $10 for a lifetime membership.  since the 200 limit is nowhere near enough to cover my books, nor do i want to catalog all of them, i’ve decided to use it just to keep track of my Star Wars books.  comic book issues aren’t listed, so i’ve had to add them by the TPB title.  you can also tag your books, which is cool, and display them on your blog or Web site by tag, randomly, recently added, and so on.  finding this was serendipitous because i’ve been planning to add the Star Wars myMediaList from Cell 2187 (old Star Wars blog, now part of this one), but the site seems to be defunct.

since i have a mood disorder, it’s a good idea to keep track of my moods, which is why i’ve started using imood again.  they have a bookmarklet that you can add on your browser’s toolbar, which makes it convenient to use.  i replaced this once with MoodSmilies, but their site goes down too often for my taste, and you’re left with a messed up iframe on your site.  the nice thing was that people could leave you comments and their icons were cooler, but it wasn’t worth it to me.  with imood, people can click on your current mood and read if there’s anything else you added.  for example, i just changed my mood to "bummed."  if you click on it, you’ll see it’s because Ohio State lost to Penn State.  viewers can also see your current IM online status, interests, and Web page URL.

finally, i was using the free version of NeoCOUNTER for a while, which tells you how many people and from what countries are currently online.  it began to annoy me, though, because for a while now it seems like every time i check it on my blog, i get some Google ads and an error message that says my counter will return in "X" minutes.  then i came across UsersOnlineCounter, which is exactly that.  it isn’t too flashy, it’s easy to use, customizable–and free.

have fun experimenting!

Links Pages

since i merged my other blogs with this one, i’ve decided to create static pages for the blogrolls from the other blogs.  besides, i don’t feel like renewing my BlogRolling subscription.  anyway, i’m now finished.  go, me.  they are: (dead links, 12/12/05)

and they can be found in the sidebar, as well.  if you want to exchange links, send me an e-mail and be sure to tell me which page would be appropriate for your blog or site.

“Into the garbage chute, flyboy”

Cell 2187 is now part of bloggo chicago, and you can find the old posts and comments under the category Star Wars.  i don’t have enough to write about Star Wars on a consistent basis.  some day, i’ll get around to reposting the really old comments from when Cell 2187 was on Blogger.  and on another day, i’ll redirect the site here, and eventually delete it altogether.
