is it me, or has this feature been glitchy lately? last weekend i noticed that it took my site forever to load because of that rental code. i also know that you folks must have paid more visits to The T Stop, my previous tenant, than what the stats actually are, am i right?
if it’s glitchy, i’m going to hold off renting for a bit. glitches give me twitches.
thanks to Cat, i am now addicted to Yahoo! Widgets. being the geek that i am, i downloaded one called Word of the Day. today’s word is uxorious, which means:
excessively fond of or submissive to a wife
i searched for the etymology here, and learned that uxor is Latin for “wife.”
certainly Brian is “excessively fond of” me–i’m his wife, after all, but i wouldn’t describe him as “submissive.”
what a poor, confused word. its own definition has 2 contrasting connotations–1 positive, and 1 negative. i’m no mathlete, but doesn’t that mean then, that the word “uxorious” cancels itself out?
months ago i began entering my Star Wars books into LibraryThing, which i thought was a great place to keep track of my Star Wars library. (read my post on LibraryThing here.)
Listal is even better. it allows you to catalog your music, DVDs, and games–not just your books. further, a free account doesn’t limit you to entering only 200 books (if you want to enter more than 200 in LibraryThing you have to pay $10/year or $25 for a lifetime membership).
other features include:
you can also join discussion groups for people with similar interests. i’ve created a group called Star Wars – Expanded Universe. so sign up (did i mention it’s free?), start listing your stuff, and join my group.
you can see my Listal profile here.
Frappr! is a new guest map you can add to your blog or Web site that i swiped from Dariana. heehee. i’m a sucker for maps and knowing where people are from, and since no one ever signed my Bravenet guest map (except for April because she’s a true blog friend
), i thought i’d try this. it’s new and unfamiliar, so maybe it’ll pique people’s curiosity. anyway, Bravenet has evil, evil pop-ups, and if this does, too, i want to hear about it! because if it does, it’s going down. and i just said i cleaned my sidebar, right?
people who sign your map can also subscribe to it to see when other people add themselves. all you do is put in your zip code (not sure about those outside the US), so it’s more accurate than Bravenet, too. signers can add photos and messages, and you can actually put a slideshow of the people who’ve signed your map onto your Web page, though i imagine it’ll only make things longer to load. i’ll add the slideshow to the extended part of this post, just so we can all see how it works.
there’s also a public directory of people’s maps, and when you create your own, you can add tags so people with similar interests can find you.
