I’ve been having problems with my Blogrolling account for quite some time now. Although my sidebar lists all of the blogs I’ve added to my blogroll, when I log in to my account (which I can’t do at the moment because the site’s down), only one link shows up! So I’ve been afraid to even mess with the sidebar widget containing the javascript for my blogroll for fear of losing all of those site URLs. Yeah, yeah, I know haven’t been reading blogs for a million years, anyway. Well, maybe this is a good time to just start over and redo my blogroll — by hand.
So for now, I’m going to use this Autoroll thing, though I’m not sure if visitors need a Criteo Autoroll widget for their sites’ links to show up or what. Meanwhile, I’m just going to create a separate page that’ll contain my blogroll and type in all of the URLs by hand. Or I might just give in to Google (I’m a Yahoo person myself) and use one of their Google Reader widgets on my blog. Decisions, decisions. Twitter, which I’ve been using for quite a while now, is becoming even more and more attractive. As is Crackbook.
Because that plugin no longer exists/works, or whatever. I am using WP 2.1.3, I think. They upgrade so fast you can’t even keep track anymore. Does anyone else agree that they should make sure one version is completely bug-free before they work on a newer version? Or am I in the minority here? It isn’t that I don’t like change; I like change if I know it works!
Anyway, there’s been a ton of hockey going on lately. Aside from the summer league, I got some Tigers together to play in the Puck Cancer Cup. We played four games in that tournament, and I’m still trying to decide if I should post four separate posts or just one long one. I mean, there are other things going on in my life, such as the fact that my Internet is down!
For the past few days they kept saying it was a power outage. Now they’re sending a tech over tomorrow between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Brian’s been the one dealing with this entire fiasco, so he’ll stay home ’til the — I’m assuming — guy shows up and fixes the damn thing. We’ve actually been discussing getting a land line, and lately Comcast has been airing these “enlightenment” commercials about their digital land lines that help the Lovie & (insert his wife’s name here) Smith Foundation for who knows what? Well, I’m not exactly enlightened with their Internet service.
So there it is.
I haven’t been visiting as many blogs as usual because as most of you know, I was in the hospital two weeks ago and last week I had three outpatient ECT treatments. This has been the first week I’ve had to myself and it has NOT been a good one.
I’ve felt irritable, anxious, and easily agitated. Well, it is PMS week, so that could be it. I’ll write more about my physical problems in another post.
Anway, logging onto Bloglines and finding several hundred updated blogs very nearly caused me to have an anxiety attack. Seriously, Bloglines is bad for my mental health. Big time.
So what I’ve decided to do is read five or ten different blogs a day. There are so many great bloggers out there! But it’s hard for me to keep up. I think what I’ll do, too, is visit the people who most recently left comments and those whose links appear on my Dashboard (a WP thing).
Finally, I’ve also been taking time, or rather, it’s been taking me time to revamp my blog. You may have noticed that some of the sidebar headers now have the show/hide feature. This, of course, means that I can add even more crap to my sidebars! :d Big thanks to Danalyn at Weblog Design Studios for implementing this for me. (y)
Meanwhile, and I’m not sure how, I discovered this great new site called MyBlogLog — take a look at the widgets in my sidebar. It’s cool to see who’s visited, but it’s also cool to see what your outgoing links are. Someone clicked on that picture of Brian! Anyway, go sign up. Now! And be sure to join my community. Just click the button!
There’s more blog goodies I’d like to share, but I promised to write that physical health post, and I need to leave
I also finally got around to creating my Goodies For You! page that contains banners and buttons that again, Danalyn made for me. The best part? You can hotlink to them and I’ve provided the tags and everything! Have fun!
- As much as I’ve wanted to keep this blog as open as possible, there are some topics I’ve been wanting to write about that I don’t believe I can share with just anybody. Therefore, some private posts may be coming soon. You’ll have to register in order to read them, but registering does not automatically mean that you’ll have that privilege for all private posts. I have to know you somehow, whether it’s from the blogosphere or real life, and obviously, who gets to read what will be at my discretion. The downside to this is that I have to make a post to say there is a private post, because you’d only be able to see it if you’re logged in. Make sense?
- edit, 11/7/06 - 5:03pm: Thanks to Katie and Joefish, I’ve got this all taken care of! (b) Cheers!
question: I have all of four posts that use Audioblogger, which has been discontinued. Does anyone know if this means my posts will be deleted? If so, can anyone tell me how to save the posts so that I can re-upload them somehow on something else? They’re mp3 files, but I know nothing about that sort of thing. Please help!
- When I first started blogging I did all sorts of memes and quizzes (check the category list, and you’ll see). Since my blogging hiatus, I’ve noticed that there are new meme-type things out there, or theme days, or whatever you want to call them. I’ve been trying to avoid this (except for Friday Cat Blogging, of course), but I don’t think I can avoid FOAD Thursdays any longer. there’ve been too many idiots pissing me off lately, and I need to vent. Can’t guarantee that I’ll do one every Thursday, but expect one tomorrow! :[ Well, if I can figure out how to use that Mister Linky Widget thing to get it to say “FOAD Thursdays Participants.” If not, i’ll write one next Thursday.
what the fuck is up with Blogrolling? i can’t log on to edit my blogroll. and what about Gravatar? it’s taking them forever to approve my new pic that i sent weeks ago. i won’t even mention that supposedly wonderful traffic exchange that’s taking forever to approve my banners. not only that, i never see any “decent” blogs while surfing there anymore. is it just me, or is anyone else experiencing this?
Blog Mad. need an invite? contact me.
is it me, or has this feature been glitchy lately? last weekend i noticed that it took my site forever to load because of that rental code. i also know that you folks must have paid more visits to The T Stop, my previous tenant, than what the stats actually are, am i right?
if it’s glitchy, i’m going to hold off renting for a bit. glitches give me twitches.
thanks to Cat, i am now addicted to Yahoo! Widgets. being the geek that i am, i downloaded one called Word of the Day. today’s word is uxorious, which means:
excessively fond of or submissive to a wife
i searched for the etymology here, and learned that uxor is Latin for “wife.”
certainly Brian is “excessively fond of” me–i’m his wife, after all, but i wouldn’t describe him as “submissive.”
what a poor, confused word. its own definition has 2 contrasting connotations–1 positive, and 1 negative. i’m no mathlete, but doesn’t that mean then, that the word “uxorious” cancels itself out?
months ago i began entering my Star Wars books into LibraryThing, which i thought was a great place to keep track of my Star Wars library. (read my post on LibraryThing here.)
Listal is even better. it allows you to catalog your music, DVDs, and games–not just your books. further, a free account doesn’t limit you to entering only 200 books (if you want to enter more than 200 in LibraryThing you have to pay $10/year or $25 for a lifetime membership).
other features include:
- the ability to track which of your items you’ve loaned out
- customized lists in which you can group items
- books that are read or unread
- items what you want
you can also join discussion groups for people with similar interests. i’ve created a group called Star Wars - Expanded Universe. so sign up (did i mention it’s free?), start listing your stuff, and join my group.
you can see my Listal profile here.
Frappr! is a new guest map you can add to your blog or Web site that i swiped from Dariana. heehee. i’m a sucker for maps and knowing where people are from, and since no one ever signed my Bravenet guest map (except for April because she’s a true blog friend ;)), i thought i’d try this. it’s new and unfamiliar, so maybe it’ll pique people’s curiosity. anyway, Bravenet has evil, evil pop-ups, and if this does, too, i want to hear about it! because if it does, it’s going down. and i just said i cleaned my sidebar, right?
people who sign your map can also subscribe to it to see when other people add themselves. all you do is put in your zip code (not sure about those outside the US), so it’s more accurate than Bravenet, too. signers can add photos and messages, and you can actually put a slideshow of the people who’ve signed your map onto your Web page, though i imagine it’ll only make things longer to load. i’ll add the slideshow to the extended part of this post, just so we can all see how it works.
there’s also a public directory of people’s maps, and when you create your own, you can add tags so people with similar interests can find you.
so go to town, already, and sign my map!:
