Every day Hopper gets her mouse.
Every day Hopper gets bored with her mouse.
Hard to believe it, but Hopper turns 15 this month. (Pictures taken this morning, while she sunned herself under my light box.) Hopper is my first cat, my first companion animal. And to think I didn’t even used to like cats! She was only 6 months old when I adopted her and I wish I knew where her baby pictures are. Those were taken in the age of non-digital cameras and if some of my pics are blurry now, well, all of my pics were blurry then.
We’ve successfully managed Hopper’s heart disease since she was diagnosed about 2 years ago. They found it early, still in a mild condition and hasn’t progressed, thankfully. Her arthritis is another story and she refuses to take her pain killers. She has a slight limp that you can’t really see unless you know what to look for and she needs to jump on a few extra surfaces to reach her destinations, but she can still haul ass when Angelo or Hee Seop terrorize her. She’s thinner then we’d like, but I think it’s a part of her aging. Still, I forget how much more fragile she is because I still think of her as 5 years old. Her sassy attitude hasn’t changed, that’s for sure!
Angelo says: More pet pics are available for your viewing pleasure at this week’s Friday Ark. If you post your own pets’ photos, submit your post or leave a comment and you’ll be listed there, too. And remember — they don’t limit pictures just to cats!

Hopper is gorgeous, and the mouse didn’t stand a chance

The mouse never stands a chance. Usually she knocks it off the desk and its insides (batteries) come out! LOL
Loving the Hopper. We have a Tuxedo cat (her name is Squeeky) who’s about the same age. Great pictures!
Thank you! Aww…does Squeeky make squeaking noises?
OK… I will admit am not really a “cat person”… but this is adorable!!!

Thanks, Wes! And remember — I wasn’t a cat person, either, until Hopper came into my life. Sappy but true.
This is just adorable. My Ethel is turning 16 soon. She is all attitude. My little Sully, who would be 15 sort of reminds me of your Hopper. She passed almost three years ago, and to this day I cry like a baby for her. She was my heart. Ethel was my first cat, and it just doesn’t seem like 16 years ago I bought her for 10 dollars at a Kroger store in Charlottesville Virginia. LOL!
Beautiful post!

Thanks, Boo. Basil was really sick a couple of weeks ago (post to follow some time) and I was afraid we’d lose him; he’s 14 and has a number of “old folks” ailments. I know their time will come soon, and I’m preparing myself, but I can’t imagine it’ll be easy.
Sadly no it will not be easy. When I had to put my Sully to sleep 2 1/2 years ago I was devastated. Beyond that really. For reasons I can’t explain it was worse than losing a friend. I fell apart. It is really hard to talk about because most people don’t understand. I wish I had taken more pictures over the years. It was a shock because It was so sudden. But like you say I am preparing myself as well.
My cats, to me, are different from friends — they’re my fur kids. I don’t and most likely will not have human ones.
