Friday Cat Blogging No. 72: CSI – Unintentional Grounding

Unintentional Grounding

I realize that “Unintentional Grounding” is not a criminal charge. In fact, it isn’t even a penalty in football, which is actually intentional grounding: “when a passer, facing an imminent loss of yardage due to pressure from the defense, throws a forward pass without a realistic chance of completion” [via]. But I’m running out of charges so I have to be creative with the episode titles.

Anyway, in this week’s episode of CSI: Cat Scene Investigation, which actually occurred on the morning we left for Iowa, Hee Seop jumped onto the bed to join me. I went to welcome him, then immediately recoiled when I saw that crap on his cheek you see in the picture above — evidence that poor Angelo unwittingly began to dispose of (click on pic for larger image). Brian and I thought our little culprit turned into one of those cats who likes to eat litter — they exist — Google it if you don’t believe me. But based on his previous offenses, we ran into the kitchen and found this:

The Grounds

Oh, relax. They’re just coffee grounds. Apparently, Hee Seop had to get past the coffee filter in order to get to the real treasure: scraped out, leftover cat food, which we know he never got to because paper towels and other debris weren’t strewn all over the floor. And no, this did not cause his stomach flu. That happened over a week later. *sigh* Will he ever stop?

Angelo says: More pet pics are available for your viewing pleasure at this week’s Friday Ark. If you post your own pets’ photos, leave them a trackback or comment and you’ll be listed there, too. And remember — they don’t limit pictures just to cats!

It’s lovely to see Hee Seop is looking better :)

  2. Cats are so sneaky, mine would go TRY and go through the trash searching for that empty tin of cat food. I started rinsing the tin so there would be no more smell for their precious little noses.

I am glad Hee Seop is getting better.

Hmm…rinsing the tins is a great idea, but usually we have to scrape the old folks’ bowls into the trash because they rarely eat all their food. We even rinse their bowls before leaving them to sit in the sink (that’s us!) before we load the dishwasher, but Hee Seop loves looking for treasures there, too. In the sink, that is, not the dishwasher, though if he could, he probably would.

We specifically bought this stainless steel trash because he habitually knocked down the old plastic one. He can’t tackle this one, but he gets up on his hind feet and uses a paw to lift the lid.

  3. Cats are so delightful. Mine are kind of elderly to. 14 and 15. Yes I rinse their bowls as well. The 14 year old can still jump pretty good. Cats will be cats. lol! I think it’s cute he gets up and lifts the lid.

Of course you think it’s cute — he’s not your cat! Aside from typical elderly cat diseases (hyperthyroid, pancreatitis, irritable bowel), Basil, who’s 14 — you’d never know it. He still wrestles with Angelo and can take him down!

Hopper, who turns 15 in January, has had trouble not so much with jumping but with depth perception for a while. Now she does have a little trouble jumping because of arthritis. Of course she won’t take her pain meds, but luckily she takes her heart medication and sometimes she’ll even deign to take her arthritis pills.

  4. LOL! Cia my 14 year old who is a considerable size can jump up on the balcony rail without hesitation. I do supervise closer now. Ethel my 15 year old is a meany. She is slowing down quite a lot, but they are both healthy. I lost Cia’s sister, my heart 2 years ago to internal bleeding. I miss her so much. I still have sorrow in my heart. I always hate mentioning the other cats without mentioning her.

You have some pretty awesome kitty cats.
