Here in Chicago, just like any major urban area in the U.S. that has Walgreens (and no, there’s no apostrophe there), there’s about one on every block, it seems. You know, like Starbucks. Anyway, Brian and I were at our local Walgreens recently. The allergy and other over-the-counter meds that kids can get high from are locked up, which is understandable. But at the one we go to, the deodorant is also locked up. We pondered this.
Brian: Maybe it’s so people don’t use them.
Barb: Eeewwww!!!
Brian: (laughing) Could you imagine? You go to use your new deodorant and find a hair on it!
I wanted to comment on this cause it’s so hilarious. I think the reason has to be to keep ppl from using the deo. I’m led to believe by whomever(T.V.,movies, news) there are more homeless ppl in Urban areas, than say Clarksville, Arkansas. Why I don’t know, lord knows they could get a job at the local chicken plant. One thing they probaly(havent tried) could’nt get is heroin or some other hard core shit.
Plus there is’nt another “wet” county for 10 miles. So getting alchol requires a car or friends w/ a car
All that being said, I have nothing against the poor/ homeless. I wish I lived in big-city, America so I could easily give to make a difference in their lives.

I would freak out if my deo had a big nasty hair on it.
If I weren’t me, you probably wouldn’t believe this… but I’ve called a Walgreens in Chicago to find out why they have their deodorant locked up. Pharmacist doesn’t know so he’s connecting me to the store manager. The manager said it’s because people were stealing them. She also said people were stealing razors, so they’re locked up too.

Hey, Holli! It is kind of funny when you think about it. We buy our deodorant at Walgreens, like it says. It’s just a big pain having to wait for someone to go get someone else to unlock the case!

That’s right — they do lock the razors up. I forgot about that. But I would think that’s maybe because they could be used as weapons in a desperate situation? Well, maybe that’s a stretch. Thank you very much for calling! 
Still, I wonder if they lock them up in Walgreens in other states.
It’s rather weird they lock up the deodorant & razors, given everything they have at Walgreens.
That’s what we thought, too. So…do they lock them up in your state’s Walgreens? Or let me guess — you shop at CVS.
I HATE our Walgreens. I tried moving all my prescriptions there, since we’re moving closer to Walgreens and they screwed up so badly I went & picked all of my prescriptions up & took them back to my old pharmacy. PLUS they lost BOTH of my insurance cards!!!!!
But, for you my dear, I will go by another Walgreens & look to see if they have them locked up.
That sucks. I hope your old pharmacy isn’t one of those independent ones that Walgreens seems to put out of business all over the place.

That’s exactly what I was wondering, although when we lived in Columbus, it seemed harder to find a Walgreens than a CVS. Maybe Walgreens has slowly made its way to every corner out there by now!
