This Rink Was So Cold . . .

. . . you could actually see the fog or vapor or whatever it was rising to the ceiling! I was just glad that I was on the ice the whole time so my feet wouldn’t have a chance to get cold while sitting on the bench waiting for a shift. This is probably the rink with the worst conditions we’ve ever played in, and not just temperature-wise. Some of the actual painted lines on the ice were missing, including most of the crease on one end of the ice!

But who cares about all that, when we got our first win of the season — and on the road, no less! We celebrated afterwards by going to a local tavern where I actually had fried mozzarella sticks and a Coke! Although this game took place on October 14, 2007, I believe I’m paying for eating that now.

Brian’s Goalie Summary

First Period: Shutout.

Fighting Squirrels 0, Tigers 0.

Second Period: Shutout. We scored 2 goals and were up for most of the game.

Fighting Squirrels 0, Tigers 0.

Third Period: We scored one more goal, but the Squirrels scored 2. I made the first save on their first goal, there was a scramble in front of the net, and one of the Squirrels scored the rebound on a backhand. Their second goal was scored on a power play but my teammates and I weren’t sure exactly what happened. According to Brian, there was another scramble at the left post, the puck popped up off of someone’s stick, I remember it hitting my glove, and then going inside the net. It all happened so fast. I guess I should’ve just batted it away, but oh, well. We still won!!!!!

Final Score: Fighting Squirrels 2, Tigers 3. (Note that Brian’s stats may not match those reflected on the scoreboard, but since it’s Brian’s summary, I always go by his stats. Besides, most of the time, the scorekeeper doesn’t keep track of the players’ shots on goal.)
