Week 9: Moussaka vs. the Turtles
Glove Save!
OK, I did drop it, but recovered the puck and froze it.

I took my own advice and wore a practice jersey that I know fits. However, I thought we were the home team and wore a white jersey. Oops. It’s been over a month since we played Moussaka (Purple), and last time we tied 3 - 3, so you can imagine how disappointed I was to lose after the victory in Week 8: The Blue Angels vs. Pink Floyd. I thought we lost 5 - 3, but the final score was 5 - 4, so it was a close game. We were behind by one all game, and I was pulled in the last 30 seconds.
Of course I beat myself up about my performance, even though Moussaka members complimented me on my game. It didn’t make me feel any better then, but it does now. I mean, you all know how hard I am on myself, and for the other team to tell me I did well is a real compliment. Also they had some really good subs playing for them, but I still held my own.
I’m disappointed that I can’t quite get the butterfly thing going, but I guess I just have to find the right buckle holes on my new pads. Well, and practice, of course.
Brian’s Goalie Summary
First Period: A Moussaka player skated towards me along the stick side circle, then shot across and scored on my glove side. We ended the period with a 1 - 1 tie.
Second Period: The second goal came from a shooter coming at me from the stick side circle. I almost stopped the shot by pressing my glove arm against my body, but the puck squeezed through the 11-hole, anyway.
Their third goal was from a rebound in front of the net, and one of the Moussaka players poked it past my glove side. I was down, but I just couldn’t reach across the crease quickly enough. NOTE TO SELF: practice lateral movement.
Second period score was 3 - 2.
Third Period: Moussaka’s fourth goal was a 2-on-1 (two opposing skaters against one of our defense), with the first skater coming up on my glove side trailed by our defender. I was hugging the post as the Moussaka skater moved towards my glove-side corner, but she then shot the puck across to a teammate parked in front of the net for a one-timer. According to Brian, I moved well, but it was an easy shot for the second shooter.
I was on my own for the final goal, which was scored on a breakaway that was a 1-on-0 (one skater; no defense). The shooter came up on my glove side, I went down too early I think, and she scored on a low shot on my stick side. NOTE TO SELF: practice lateral movement.
With 30 seconds left in the game, I was pulled so we could have six skaters on the ice to try to tie the game, but unfortunately, we didn’t. At least Moussaka didn’t score an empty-net goal!
Final Score: Moussaka 5, The Turtles 4.

You know, I do think this is really exciting! I love hockey but hadn’t been able to get into watching the Stanley Cup playoffs. Too much commercialism. If I lived near you I would come watch your team play!

I know what you mean about the Stanley Cup. Hockey’s really the only sport I like watching on TV, but the commercialism is too much for any of the sports but also incredibly stupid! Particularly the beer commercials.
If we had cable TV (we just have cable Internet), I’d watch more hockey, even though the best way for a goalie to learn by watching is to go to live games. Still, I avoid TV and would wish that we could just get ESPN!
That would be so cool if you lived around here and came to my games. My own family doesn’t even bother, but whatever. I guess that’s another story for another time. Anyway, then you could play, too!
