Good as Gould Update

It totally rocked, and I had a great time. Not only that, I learned a ton of stuff, including things that I was taught to do by non-goalie coaches but that I really shouldn’t be doing.

I was the only female there last night, but everyone there treated me with respect. It was a lot of hard work, but I learned so much in just that one hour. Of course, this left me totally pooped for my team’s practice directly afterwards, but it was well worth it. I highly recommend Good as Gould for anyone wanting to learn to play goal or improve the skills they already have.

Practice & Scrimmage, 02/22/07 - 08 Brian took some pictures of our practice and scrimmage last night, which you can see here. Because we didn’t have many players show up last night, we ended up scrimmaging 3-on-3, which is why the rink looks so small.

  1. Just wait a year–it will be the “Bad as Barb” clinic, where Darth Goalie teaches her apprentices how to use the Dark Side of the Force to stone the opposition . . . Glad you had fun!

  2. It’s so obvious what a high hockey is for you. I’d imagine the other players have tons of respect for you playing with a bunch of guys.

  3. pantheranon, “Bad as Barb” — :d! I think I’m going to start taping my stick red from now on.

jane, it’s definitely a high. It also helps that it’s something that I can’t forget — I do better with hands-on things, like when I started taking those metalsmithing classes. Did you know that I was discharged from the hospital two Fridays ago and traveled to South Bend, IN, the next day for a game? I think that definitely earns me the title of Dark Lord of the Ice. ;)

As for whether or not I get respect from the others — do you mean the other women? I don’t know if I do or not. I’m just really glad that the guys I do play with and this new group of coaches don’t treat me like a girl. They may go a little easier on me for some of the drills, but that’s because I’m still a beginner.

  4. That sounds like a blast! I’m slightly jealous that opportunity is even available where I’m not!

  5. Hi, Mocha — thanks for stopping by! Hockey is a TOTAL blast! I don’t know where you’re located, but just because you’re a woman doesn’t mean you have to play on a women’s team or league. I play rat (pick-up) hockey with men on Tuesday mornings, and more and more rinks offer house leagues for beginning adult players on co-rec teams. It’s a great stress reliever!

  6. I still need to get my rear in gear and check out the local hockey team here, it’s on my list!

Glad you had a good time (*)
