Public Aid Interview; Still Sick

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

To be perfectly honest, I’m not quite sure I understood everything that transpired between us and the interviewer, who reminded us several times that she isn’t our case worker. Apparently, until we’re approved, we won’t have one. (I even made sure not to bring my $350 Coach purse–ahem, purchased with the profits from the sale of our Ohio State vs. Penn State tickets, though at the time we didn’t realize that it should have been put to better use.) I was hoping that my coughing, sneezing, and constant nose-blowing would be signs that I could get a temporary medical card, but nope.

Our appointment letter said that our interview was at 8:00 a.m. Except for security and reception, I don’t think the “interviewers” actually begin work until 8:30. We weren’t seen until after 9:30 and were out of there by 11:00.

Brian is only eligible for food stamps because he isn’t disabled. I’m eligible for food stamps, temporary cash assistance, and Medicaid, but we won’t know for at least 30 days if either of us will be approved. However, if Brian’s Unemployment Benefits go through, then neither of us will be approved for food stamps. Yeah, like two of us can live on all of $1,600/mo. when our rent alone is $900. :s Hopefully, all this will be moot and that Brian will have a job soon. We’re looking at this process as a safety net.

OK, going to lie down now. Still feeling pretty crappy. Will get back to reading blogs soon.

Ugh…I’m Sick

Sunday, December 10th, 2006

Brian was sick all last week, and now I am. I won’t be visiting blogs and commenting for a while, sorrry to say. Plus, my appointment with Public Aid is at 8:00 fucking a.m. on Tuesday, and I have to be there. Out.

Game 9: Tigers Orange vs. the Fighting Squirrels (2nd Game) 11
Post-game pile-up on the goalie (me)! We WON!!!!!!!!

OMG–we were so happy to finally win our first real game (as opposed to the scrimmage against the start-up team we played a few weeks ago)! This was a home game, so we’re wearing our light jerseys. The Fighting Squirrels were the very first team we played against this season, almost exactly two months ago, and we lost that game 8 – 1. But it was our first game, we only had three practices beforehand, and weren’t cohesive as a team yet. Last night, not only did we beat them–we beat them by more than one point! Go Tigers!!!

Although they’re classed as a green-level team like us, I heard that they play at a higher level, mainly because they’ve been playing together longer. Their goalie is certainly more experienced than I am; you can just tell by the way she moves. Well, I’ve improved a lot in the last two months, I guess. My whole team has! Also, when we last played them, we didn’t have our jerseys, but now we all do, and as Coach Tim says, “When you look good, you play good.” I don’t know how much truth there is to that, but we totally rocked!

We had two Blue Tigers on the roster last night, because three of our own couldn’t make it, and the Blue players came directly from playing their own game. But of the five goals we scored, only one was scored by a Blue player–the other four were scored by Orange Tigers, and for two of my teammates, it was the first goals they’d ever made! Very exciting!

Game 9 StatsAs you can see from the stats, we tied in the first period, no one scored in the second, and we scored two goals in the third. Even though the other goalie is way better than me, our save percentages were really close last night. It’s too bad that it was only a couple of games ago that Brian started keeping track of the SOGs. I barely saw any action because most of the game was played in their zone. The first goal they scored against me was on a breakaway, the second goal was on a rebound, and the third was a slapshot that I didn’t exactly see because I was screened. Still, I made a few really good saves–some close ones! It’s nice, too, to hear it from the refs, especially for someone just starting out, like me.

I wish we could have gone out to celebrate with the team, but Brian has been sick all week, and now I think I’ve caught it. Still, we were just so happy–it really shows how much our hard work has paid off. Honestly, I think because they beat us so badly last time, they came in thinking they’d beat us again–I know I thought that! Boy, were they in for a surprise!

Unfortunately, there aren’t very many pictures because Brian was the scorekeeper so they were all taken from behind the glass. And of the pictures that did turn out, they’re still pretty blurry. However, you can check them out here: Game Nine, ?06 – ?07: Tigers Orange 5, the Fighting Squirrels (second game).

GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!

Leg Warmer 2

If you guessed that he’s comfortably lying in the crook of my legs, then you’re right! I’m under there, too, somewhere.

Angelo says: More pet pics are available for your viewing pleasure at this week’s Friday Ark. If you post your own pets’ photos, leave them a trackback or comment and you’ll be listed there, too. And remember — they don’t limit pictures just to cats!
