Friday Cat Blogging No. 43: Pointless

This picture was actually taken around October 2004 when all we had was the camera phone. Heh. As far as digital cameras go, that’s all we have now! Anyway, Brian and I bought the cats this fancy sofa covered in nice, scratchable carpeting. What does Hopper choose to relax in? The frickin’ shoe box! Maybe it was my fault for placing it right next to the kitty couch. Actually, they’ve probably used it off and on since then, but no one has even gone near it since we’ve moved to our current apartment in June.
So you other cat parents out there: do you even bother buying stuff for your cats? (We still do–those Okey Dokey Pokey Balls are particularly popular.) And if so, do they use them?
(@) Angelo says: More pet pics are available for your viewing pleasure at this week?s Friday Ark. If you post your own pets? photos, leave them a trackback or comment and you?ll be listed there, too. And remember–they don’t limit pictures just to cats!

That happened today when I opened a box from Amazon.com, Pilot immediately jumped into it.
I joined in on the Friday Ark today (y)

The cats I’ve had in my lifetime never took a look at any of the toys I bought them… They preferred ruining the couch and drapes…

Hahaha that is quite funny that your cat chose the box than the fancy sofa which looks cute btw and I like the colour.
Anyway, have a nice weekend Barb!

Robin, what is it with cats and boxes, anyway? That’s so cool that you started doing the Friday Ark!
DB, don’t I know it. Fortunately, we have an old couch, so it doesn’t really matter. One way to deter them from scratching it is by placing a scratching post right in front of the part of the couch they love, then just take it away when you have guests, which we never have because we’re losers and have no friends here in Chicago.
Well, we’re starting to make some through hockey.
Hopper likes to scratch the top part of the couch, so we’ve put one of those cardboard scratchy things up there. Then we just gave up. Like I said, it’s an old couch, so we don’t really care. Oh, God. If we ever get “real” furniture, I hope we don’t turn into those people who cover it all in plastic!
chas, oh, sure–funny to you, maybe.
I liked the couch, too! I thought it was so cute, but I think that’s what sucks the cats’ people in. I don’t think they care what any of it looks like as long as it suits their purposes. (@) You have a great weekend, too!

I’ll buy toys (mostly mice and balls) occasionally. Most of my kitties are old enough they don’t play much anymore.
Scratching posts they like, and they spend a lot of time up in some cat climbing trees I picked up over the years.
Are far as beds, not for a long time, and likely not again. (You spend money on a nice plush bed, and the cat decides to use it as a litter box, you rethink cat beds pretty fast) Now all I give them are cardboard boxes with old towels in the bottom as padding. I think the boxes are too small, but they like them better than larger ones I’ve tried. They’re happy, I’m happy.

My cats shred cardboard boxes. I’ve had to try and transfer my myriad of crap to plastic storage bins because otherwise it would just be laying on the floor. (@)

daniel, welcome to the bloggo! I would love to have cat trees, but those things are expensive! I really think they’d use them, though. Fortunately, we’ve never had one use a bed as a litter box, but ours love boxes, too. And yeah, the smaller, the better, in their opinion. :s
Cheesemeister, ugh–that must be a real pain. I’ve caught Angelo and Hee Seop using our bicycle tires as scratching posts!
Luckily, they don’t do any damage. Frickin’ cats. :d (@)
