Extreme Insanity

As Brian and I drove home from the gym late this afternoon, I saw a bank sign that said it was 26 degrees out. That’s pretty fucking cold. And yet, we saw like, three people out there riding their bicycles! WTF?????

The only explanation I can think of is that they’re the type who are totally into extreme sports, you know, like those X Games or whatever. I bet they’re also the people I see at the gym who work out in cargo shorts and wear flip-flops in the frickin’ free weight room! Hello! I can accept the cargo shorts thing, but open-toed shoes in the weight room? :s That isn’t exteme insanity, that’s extreme stupidity. And riding your bike in this weather is insane and stupid, so there!

This only serves to reinforce my belief that everyone is crazy but me. And you. And maybe a few other people.

  2. Barb says:

Yeah, but you’re still smarter than me. And so is my husband. ;( Heehee.

  3. Gah. What the hell is wrong with those weirdos? I can’t stand cold or snow or cold or anything to do with snow…and did I mention I HATE COLD? :p

  4. Barb says:

They’re “cool kids,” that’s what’s wrong with them.

  5. DeniseTN says:

I like the cold, but NO WAY am I gonna go out and ride a bike. Freaks.

  6. Two Sirius says:

If all this friggin’ ice would go away, I’d get out and run. Granted, it’s cold, but I’m tired of not fitting into my skinny jeans!

  7. Barb says:

Denise, that’s exactly what they are! Buncha freaks!

TS, welcome to my world ! What about a treadmill?

    April, huh? :s

  8. NYC Watchdog says:

Heh. I don’t ride a bike during the summer. During winter? Oh hell no. Somebody should test them for “performance enhancers”.

  9. Adriane says:

    Dear Barb,

coming from a country where the majority of people rides bicycles all through the year I can safely say that when you are ON the bike you probably aren’t cold. Because you are exercising ;) Just wanted to share that :P

  10. Barb says:

Dawgg, nah, these are just hipsters. I’m sure of it.

Adriane, I knew you Dutch were crazy. :p

  11. Robin says:

Insanity is going into the cold for any other reason than to simple GET somewhere. I basically hibernate all winter.

  12. Adriane says:

    Crazy huh?
Well, for yout information that has been an increasing demand for Dutch bikes in the US…what do you think of that?!! :P
It’s so easy when you are travelling downtown…no need for a parking space…no need to pay exepnsinve parking fees…no fuel costs…no traffic jams…need I go on? :P :P

  13. Barb says:

    Robin, agreed.

Adriane, your points are well taken, but how cold does it get there? In Fahrenheit, please. ;)

  14. Adriane says:

Jeezes…you’re asking me the temps in Fahrenheit..what the hell is a Fahrenheit??!! You know all Dutch people banned German words…so we use Celsius instead :P

About 25 degrees Fahrenheit during the coldest day…but it seems as though we might keep it above the 32 this year..let’s hope so I can’t stand cold!! I have tremendous admiration for the people who rode their bikes during the last winter of WW2…which was the coldest ever!!

  15. Barb says:

Adriane, I have a link for you: go here. ;)

  16. Adriane says:

Why :P I already found a website myself..as you can read in the second part of my post..where I actually gave you the temperatures in Fahrenheit lol 8)

  17. Barb says:

Really? What’s the link? Maybe it’s better than the site I found. Seriously.

  18. Adriane says:

    http://www.lapoo.nl/celcius.htm (it’s a Dutch site)

just type in what you want to know and hit enter ;)

  19. Barb says:

Cool, thanks! Except that it’s in Dutch. :s

  20. Adriane says:

Lol…honey the only thing in Dutch is what you have to do and that is what I just explained LOL :d
The degrees in fahrenheit and celsius stay the same regardless of the language you speak ;)

  21. Barb says:

    I know! I was just teasing! ;)

  22. Adriane says:

lol ok and I fell for it :p
