Game Seven, ?06 – ?07: Tigers Orange 3, the Frozen Snappers 12

I’m not posting pictures because they haven’t been developed yet. Walgreens is currently having a special where if you turn in two rolls they’ll develop the third for free, and right now we need to save every penny that we can. Anyway, I’ve got a roll of my jewelry projects that I’m hoping will turn out, the one from last night’s game, and I have another game tonight. We finally got our jerseys though and we looked sharp, at least!

Actually, we played well as a team, and I did, too. Though the Frozen Snappers only had seven skaters show up, they weren’t the true beginner players, especially #25 and #3. These two ladies outskated us. It was immediately obviously that their skating and puckhandling skills were from years of practice and playing. I mean, everyone on my team is new this year; not necessarily to the game, but playing with each other as a team. You could just tell that their really experienced line was used to playing together.

At least they were a nice group of women. One of their team members, Wendy, who I know, wasn’t there last night. She played as a Tiger in the scrimmage against the Vernon Hills team a couple of weeks ago. Also, this is the team I was supposed to sub for during one game, but their back-up goalie ended up playing instead.

We had ten SOGs and scored three. They had 37 SOGs and scored 12. So their goalie’s save percentage was .70 and mine was .67, which isn’t bad considering that I’m still pretty new to the position and come on–I took 37 shots on goal!!!!

Tonight we play the Glacier Vixens who we tied with last time. That was the game where our back-up goalie played and I played wing. And of course I must remind everyone (OK, OK–myself) that it was the game where I had an assist on our first goal.

Wow, that’s a pretty good save percentage for someone who is new to the position. Sounds like so much fun. BP and I are dog sitting for some friends who are playing in a hockey tourney this weekend. My friend Sylvia keeps asking me to join their league, but it’s kind of expensive and though I’d love to play I just don’t have the money right now. Some day.

Have I mentioned lately that I think it is so cool that you play hockey, and even more so that you play goalie? :)

Good luck for tonight! And looking sharp is half the work! ;-)

zoe, it can be expensive–you’re right about that, especially if you aren’t a goalie. That’s because goalie equipment is really expensive, so oftentimes we get discounts or play free.

Still, you should give it a shot! I’m telling you, when I first started, I’d skated maybe once or twice in my life. You could probably go to one or two practices before you commit and maybe even borrow someone else’s gear. People usually have extra stuff, and if you decide to do it after all, I’d start out by purchasing equipment from Play It Again Sports. Or you can check out Freecycle, which is a site I learned about recently. Though I’ve never used it myself, I hear you can get all kinds of free stuff there, and it isn’t limited to hockey gear! The only thing you should get new are skates, since they’re the most important piece of equipment in hockey!

    Mr. Fabulous,
    don’t you mean that I’m fabulous? :d

DB, as our coach keeps telling us: “When you look good, you play good.” 8)
