Scrimmage, ?06 – ?07: Tigers Orange 8, Vernon Hills 1

Save!Look! Finally! It’s a shot of me making a save! The red circle’s there to show where the puck is. :)

I must have covered it with my glove immediately, or it would have been a goal. It was on a breakaway, too!

This wasn’t an officially sanctioned game by the WCHL. Rather, it was a scrimmage against a new team that’s forming in one of the northern suburbs. In fact, because we were short a few players, we had some of their team members play with us. Though we were the “away” team, we’re the ones in white jerseys. *sigh* No, our real jerseys aren’t back from the printers.

Unfortunately, I jinxed myself by saying “shutout” right before the third period! Still, we won 8 – 1, and the ref told me that the goal I let in–there was nothing I could have done about it because I was screened.

It was a lot of fun, totally relaxed, and our coach commended us on our sportsmanship. Apparently, other teams claiming to consist of beginners have played against this new team and turned out not to be beginning players after all.

The goalie was obviously newer to the position than I am, so I tried to give her a few tips between periods. It’s a tough position to play and there are a lot of things to remember, but I hoped that I was able to help, even just a little.

Just like my team, theirs consisted of women with varying skill levels, but many were just learning how to skate. It was a really good time and I think we’ll be scrimmaging with them again.

This is fantastic. When I see a capitalized “I” I think to myself, “Now here’s a blogger with some pride.” And there are so many of them!

    <snicker>

  2. Barb says:

That’s right–I’ve decided to take more pride in my blog. Maybe we should establish a Blog Pride day or something. ;)

  3. Sweet ass! Congrats on the win! :D It’ll be a real energy booster for the team!

  4. jane says:

Big, big congrats on the win!!! I bet you appreciate it 10 times more than those snobby bitches.
I’m all for the blog pride day. I’d like to suggest adding a doo-da parade to it…yanno..link to other blogs doing the same.
    Love ya Barb!! (l)

  5. Mr. Fabulous says:

Wow, how cool is that! Way to go!

  6. DutchBitch says:

Wooohoooo!!! That reminds me: I gotta myself get back into skating soon if I wanna be able to teach The Kid…

  7. Silver says:

Do you know what I always used to yell at Ex Girlfriend when she tried to convince me of how fancy icehockey was?

“I CAN’T EVEN SEE THE PUCK!”

So thank you for the little red circle, and congrats on the save :D Personally I think pucks should be bright purple, for visibility’s sake.

  8. Heck to beat a team 8-1 I’d want to play them again too! ;)

  9. zoe says:

That is so cool, congrats on the save. I’d love to play hockey, it looks like a total blast.

  10. Barb says:

KG, yeah, it’s definitely been a real booster, considering our current record. So what if it wasn’t an “official” game? The taste of victory is sweet, indeed.

jane, true enough. I was just glad that some of this team’s members who ended up playing for my team scored, too, you know? So it wasn’t just us making all the goals.

A doo-da parade? Oh, no–you’re not thinking of another meme day, are you? What day doesn’t have one? Tuesdays? Doo-da Tuesdays? :d

Mr. Fabulous, I lost track of you during my blogging hiatus. Now that I’ve found you again, this time I’m holding on–thanks for the congrats and for stopping by!

DB, if Brian and I ever have kids, they’re going to learn how to skate before they learn how to walk! ;)

Silver, a few years back, one of the TV channels decided to add a red streak that followed the puck around the screen during games. It wasn’t very popular, but I’m glad you liked my circle! Too bad I’m not good enough with PSP 9 to figure out how to just make a circle instead of hand drawing one! :d

GDG, I’ll bet the teams that beat us feel the same way, too! :d At least the people on this team were nice, unlike some of the other teams we’ve played. There’s no reason to be mean, even after the game. I mean, it’s just a game.

zoe, it’s never too late to learn! Most women’s team accept players who have never even skated before. I was 26 before I first put on a pair of skates, and I’ve basically lived in Chicago my whole life!

    Yay! Win WON for Barb!

  12. Barb says:

April, I’m quoting my coach again, which I did in a recent post: “Forwards win games, but goalies lose games.” I think it’s just the way the game goes, but wow! It felt so good!!!!! (y)
