Ha. No pun intended. I thought that seeing the gastroenterologist and being on Metamucil and all that would help. Unfortunately…well, if you’re squeamish, don’t bother reading on. Bottom line, though, I’m scheduled for a colonoscopy on Wednesday! On frickin’ Wednesday! I didn’t realize it was that serious.
Some of you may remember that I was having constipation and incontinence problems for a couple of months (read post here). Anyway, when I saw the doctor last week, I told him that one time I had a BM right before I saw him, there was blood. He said that just happens sometimes–maybe things down there are irritated or whatnot. Basically, for it to happen once is normal.
Well, now it’s happened two or three more times. At first I thought it was my period, because it’s period week. I also just started taking the Pill again a few weeks ago so I’ve been having irregular spotting, which the PCP’s office assured me is normal and may happen for the first three months. But that type of blood isn’t red like normal period blood. Whenever I take a dump while on my period, there’s more blood than shit on the toilet paper, and that’s how it looked.
So I inserted a tampon just to be sure the blood wasn’t coming from there. It wasn’t, which is why I called the doctor today. Of course I wanted to wait to see if it happened a few more times, but when I first saw him, I had no idea that anyone in my family has had colonoscopies. I e-mailed a bunch of them last night and my mom, an aunt, and an uncle have had them. I guess it’s normal to get one when you’re over 50, which is why I’m scared because I’m only 37.
Well, whatever. I’m still playing rat hockey with the guys tomorrow morning.

*hugs* I think that the chances that it’s something serious are very very tiny at your age, but I’m glad your doc is as careful as this. Colonoscopies aren’t exactly fun, but it’s better than you having to worry all the time.
My guess would be a bunch of hemmies. I had a sigmoidoscopy (very similar except you’re awake and it doesn’t run as far). I lived. It wasn’t fun, but I’m here. It’ll be ok.
Sorry to hear this, it sounds scary. I hope everything goes well and that it turns out to be something simple. I’ll be thinking good thoughts for you.
The thing you have to appreciate is figuring it out early, and having the wherewithal to do so.
It doesn’t seem like it, but once everything is fixed, you’ll be glad. I can feel it.
I’m a master of mastering hindsight. :d
I am squeamish, but since it’s you, I toughed it out! (*)
I’m glad they’re doing this so fast & taking it seriously, although I do believe you’ll be just fine. Sounds like you’ve got good doctors, Barb.
Hey, everyone–thanks for the well wishes. I really appreciate it. And yeah, I guess it’s better to find things out early rather than too late.
Ewww. Sucks to be barb!
Charred, no shit! Bwahahahaha!!!
