Game 1: Tigers Orange vs. the Fighting Squirrels 06

Yes, that’s me.

And let me just remind you all that the Orange team is an instructional/recreational level squad. Many of our members are just learning to play the game. Shit. I’m just learning how to play goalie, in spite of the fact that I played at Ohio State for a season-and-a-half (the first half-season as a winger) because no one else wanted to play goalie, and that doesn’t count because I never had any goalie instruction whatsoever other than to put myself in front of the puck. I still have winger stuff in my head — you know: butt to the boards, head on a swivel. In fact, in yesterday’s game against the Fighting Squirrels, the refs had to tell me where to stand during some of the face-offs in our zone! :P

I have to admit that I started getting frustrated when the score was at about 6-1, mainly because I didn’t know what I was doing wrong — what I was doing not to stop the puck. Brian and a couple of the refs said that many of the other team’s goals were scored on rebounds. Also, the other team had a few players who probably should have been on a higher level team. Anyway, I think, too, that I’m too slow getting up after I go down. That’s something to work on. Oh, and puck handling.

My team members and the coach are totally awesome and were very helpful, which I appreciated. I’m really looking forward to our next game, which is this Saturday night. I don’t know whether or not we’ll have our jerseys yet, but in yesterday’s game, we were wearing darks. You can see the rest of the pics in my flickr photo set here. Meanwhile, I’ll leave you with this picture. I at least look like a pro, right? 8)

  2. Yeah, you look like a pro. And you are one helluva strong person to go out there doing your thing even if you aren’t the most comfortable doing it. I hope you give yourself a few pats on the back.
