I…Snore?!

one other symptom of sleep apnea is loud snoring. because Brian was with me at the ENT’s office, he confirmed to the doctor that i do, in fact, snore. our conversation on the way home went something like this:

Me: So, I snore?

Brian: (hesitates) Sometimes.

Me: Loud?

Brian: Not usually.

Me: What do you mean, “not usually”?

Brian: (shrugs) Not usually.

Me: Do I saw logs?

Brian: Not really.

Me: So, sometimes.

Brian: Well…yeah.

Me: Enough to make you leave the room?

Brian: Um, once or twice.

Me: Is that why you sleep in the living room after the alarm goes off?

Brian: No! I really am trying to wake up, then. I only moved to the couch a couple times.

Me: So how loud is it? Can you hear it from the living room?

Brian: A little.

Me: (gasps) As loud as my dad?!

Brian: (hurriedly) No, not as loud as your dad.

Me: Well, OK, as long as it isn’t as loud as my dad.

my dad’s snoring isn’t as loud as one of my uncle’s, who you can hear downstairs even if he’s sleeping upstairs, but it’s still pretty loud. because of job schedules, my dad usually went to bed before my mom so it didn’t bother her. or maybe she just sleeps very soundly. this isn’t, by the way, the reason they’re now divorced. or who knows? maybe it’s part of it.

snoring can present a huge problem in marriages, and i don’t want it to be a problem in mine. some couples actually sleep in separate rooms (see this article). i don’t want to do that!

I think I have some sleep apnea too.

I have been known to snore.

Holy shit. Is that what it’s called? Sometimes I lay in bed and think about bashing my husband’s head with a tire iron to MAKE IT STOP. Okay, not really, well maybe a few times….but it DOES really annoy me and make me wish for separate rooms.

  3. Joel says:

I don’t snore. But Lynn has one that whirls like a top.

    Hi Barb
Is it ok if I link you up? We seem to have some things in common…anxiety, depression, sleep apnea.
I cannot sleep on my back, if I do I wake up gasping for air. I have yet to do the sleep study, I know I would not sleep, the anxiety would kick in and why waste the time.
    Take care
    Vick

peepeehead says I snore REALLY loud and talk in my sleep – I hope I say really mean things to him too :)

  7. barb says:

dan and Kentucky, i’m not sure that snoring means that the snorer has sleep apnea. i don’t know enough about it yet, though. i guess having a cold might cause someone to snore?

Joel, “whirls like a top”? that’s a great one! never heard that before.

clare, we agreed that if it wakes him up he should record it.

Vick, welcome! and yes, let’s trade links. :) i take medication to sleep, and now i’m wondering if they’ll let me do that for the sleep study? if not, i might not be able to fall asleep. :(

    hippy,

    My Si says, when I snore, I sound like a Moehog… I think you’re a neopets fan too, so you’ll understand…

  9. barb says:

i used to have a Moehog! now she (was a he) is an ugly purple Uni. and how would your SI know what a Moehog sounds like, anyway? :)

  10. Shamisen says:

Well, I think Moehogs rule and uni’s are just for 10 year old girls. But I’m a bit of a snob cos I go a pogle :)

Si has a vivid imagination hehehe Plus he likes neopets too

Bwahahah, this entry made me chuckle a little, especially after what you said about snorring as loud as your Dad, but hey, at least you don’t snore as loud as he does, right? I think it’s sweet though that you care enough to not let it mess up things between you and Brian, aw. :D

  12. barb says:

Shamisen, not so sure about the new Rainbow Moehogs, though. and i agree about the Unis, but she was Tyrannian not to long ago, and that was cool.

April, fortunately it isn’t an issue. :)
