Ritalin–It’s What’s for Breakfast!

i’ve been taking Ritalin for about a week now, and it’s given me the jump start that i need. i shower like a normal human being. i sleep for only 8 hours like normal human beings do. “normal” is relative, of course. i’m not 100%, but i no longer fear that i’m turning into a cat.

the downside is that i’ve had to take trazodone to counter the stimulating effect of the Ritalin. i absolutely hate trazodone. i took it for years and years and years, not for the antidepressant effect, but so i could sleep. my biggest fear was unknowingly running out of trazodone because i was afraid i wouldn’t be able to fall asleep on my own, which i couldn’t. trazodone hangovers are terrible, so when i wake up, i’m still so groggy that i’m a complete zombie. the good news is that Ritalin counters trazodone’s sedating effect on me. so it’s a draw, i guess.

what i find so ironic is all this trouble of finding the right combination of meds that allow me to function and live normally. the irony is that it’s exactly like the drug use in my teens and early 20s: i was always looking for just the right combination of drugs and alcohol to achieve the perfect high.

That’s a downright scary truism that you found.

Ewwww, I don’t even like to hear the the name “Ritalin”. They almost killed my son with that by misdiagnosing him as a child. He was definitely NOT hyperactive. He actually got suicidal on it and I did research and found it was the most over-prescribed drug for kids under 10 during the late 80′s. Either way, I got him off it pronto after he started sinking into what I remember as very dark moods. I have heard it works wonders with SOME kids and a LOT of adults though. Am very happy it is working for you though. Hope you are having a marvelous day woman!

Barb, I’m so glad you’re feeling more energetic! Tell Brian and the cats hello! Hope to see you next weekend for Xmas (can’t believe it’s that close already!).

Back when I was teaching I wanted them to pump ritalin through the air vents in my 14 yr olds’ classes to calm the little buggers down, lol ;)

Am chuffed that you’ve found a cool combo – happy Friday!!

That is the same exact way I feel about Risperdal. I am so scared of running out of it because I know I wont be able to sleep or even function.

I have taken Trazadone also and it made me very tired. After a while of taking it it wouldn’t put me to sleep anymore though (which is why I was taking it).
