Holiday Decorating

I love Christmas tree farms, especially the ones where you get to chop down your own tree. It’s like a cat marking its territory, you know? A nice way to stake your claim: this is my tree. Back off!

Logtar and the Dook (dead links) have both been to tree farms recently. Stop by their blogs and read their descriptions of the fun, fun, fun times. Me, I haven’t been to a tree farm in about 10 years for a number of reasons — living in a studio apartment and not having a car being the main ones. Last year was a different story. But we have to go back a few years, first:

Brian and I bought a fake (but cute!) little 3-foot tree to decorate on our first Christmas together in 2000. We both had our own ornaments to hang on the tree and started a tradition of buying a new Hello Kitty ornament and Eeyore ornament that year. At the time, we only had Basil and Hopper.

In 2001, we had already moved to Chicago and put the tree up again. By this time, Angelo had come into our lives. Same in 2002. Unknown to us, it would be the last year we had a tree.

The next year, 2003, Hee Seop joined the household. Because he was (and still is but not as much) somewhat feral in a scared and skittish way, not the mean and ferocious way, we decided against putting up the tree, and haven’t since. Here’s why.

I’ve changed my blog template to this rather festive, poinsettia one that I quite like. This, I’m afraid, will be the extent of our holiday decorating.

I feel you there, I really do. Wow, look back at that 2004 entry last year, made me realize, that I’ve been reading your blog for over a year now! Wow!! Yeah, I know it’s rough, when cats knock down everything… okay, so let me get this straight… you’ve got Hee Seop, Basil, Hopper, and what other kitty?

This year, however, I am determined to have a Christmas tree, and I don’t give a shit how or what it takes dang it… cats won’t stop Christmas again for my family… We are going to put up the fake tree, and then, add ornaments that are plastic, and not make of glass.

Does Chicago even have a farm, much less a tree farm???? tee hee, just teasing. I bought a live tree this year, now I got crap all over my hardwood floors. They are beautiful but MESSY! Left you a comment about adding flickr on my blog and about reaching ODEO. Have a great day woman!

I Love my tree… Cielo thinks is too huge and has dubbed it the Christmas Bush.

hehe, our cat Snuggles was a TERROR with the tree…she’d ‘undecorate’ it every night after we’d gone to bed, and then ignore it all day when we fixed it, in a ‘it wasn’t me’ stylee, lol.

    Happy Holidays to everyone!

Logtar, that tree is huge beyond belief! I hope your pets are good with it!

Ratty, the last time we put up the tree, I forgot that you shouldn’t hang decorations towards the bottom. The moment I hung the first ornament, Hopper, being her ever helpful overseer self, batted it before I had a chance to snatch my fingers away!

Yep, I don’t trust my cats around *any* kind of plant form, tree or otherwise. I have a teeny 1.5′ fake tree that I put up. We usually go to my sister’s in Calif. for Xmas, so I wouldn’t get a tree even if I didn’t have cats!

we usually go out of town, too, and that’s when the real mischief happens. we’ve come home to find the tree completely knocked over, lying on its side.
