Chicago Living Tip No. 32
if you ever take the Metra train to the suburbs there are 2 things you should know about purchasing tickets:
- the ticket agents at Union Station do not accept debit or credit cards.
- you can buy a ticket on the train, but it will cost an additional $2 unless the ticket windows are closed (hardly ever)

edit 9:20pm: J has kindly pointed out that the conductors also do not take debit or credit cards.

What is this world coming to when places don’t take plastic?! When I took my daugher to get her temps at the DMV, I had figured that I’d just use my debit card for the fee. I had no idea until we got there and saw the sign, that they would not take debit or credit cards…yet they took personal checks! Anyway, I lucked out because I had just enough money in my wallet…a freak thing! (Although, they did get a lot of quarters!)

i know! those Metra ticket guys are old coots, too. they also take personal checks if you purchase a monthly pass. i’m not sure though, if they accept them for a one-way ticket.

Totally off the subject here, but if you haven’t had a chance to come over and push my large button at the top of my site, I’m figuring you might get a grin or a giggle out of it. It only works in Internet Explorer though.

How shocked was I to see me posted as an edit! LOL
At least I haven’t been stuck in AZ so long as to have forgotten my metra rides to the city.
