KotOR II First Impressions - Storyline
*** spoilers ***
This post definitely has spoilers, so READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. Like the previous post, this one assumes an audience already familiar with KotOR, but specifically the “old guard” at Bioware, including the Onasi Order (OO).
I <3 Carth. (Translation: Guys–I’m warning you now that I’m a total Carth fangirl, so I don’t want to rehash all those arguments previously addressed among the OO. This is meant in good fun, of course. You know who you are!)
- Sora is an exiled Jedi who’s been out of touch with galaxy news since the Mandalorian Wars ten years before the present time (KotOR takes place five years ago) in which she fought alongside Revan and Malak on Malachor V. Right now I don’t yet know why they booted her, but I bet it has to do with Master Vrook, since he never liked her.
- Kreia is my Master during my re-training. She’s currently neutral, but was a Sith until Sion defeated her and she was cast out. (I don’t know why he didn’t kill her, which was merciful of him. However, it’s hard to believe that there’s any hope of redemption. The guy is really fucking scary. I mean, if anyone thinks Malak’s mechanical jaw is frightening, especially when you see him without it, heh. Sion is a million times worse, and I’ve only caught glimpses of him so far–no close-ups and no interaction.) Kreia was much younger when she was banished and kind of reminds me of the Dark Woman, but creepier. She’s sort of like Jolee but not as funny. Make that not funny at all. She’s superserious. I don’t know what she’s been up to since, and I can’t tell how much time has passed. If she’s human, I’d say a good forty years.
She and Sora share a Force bond, like the PC and Bastila. It isn’t just being able to read each other’s thoughts and share visions, though. For example, when Kreia gets hurt during an altercation with Sion, Sora feels it, too. Sucks, huh? The good news is that Obsidian created a new power called Force chain, which allows both of them to benefit from a Force power when one uses it on herself. You just have to remember not to assign duplicate Force powers. - Atton Rand bugs. I think he’s supposed to be the female PC’s love interest, but he is so fucking obnoxious. He’s a scoundrel and basically a poor man’s Han Solo but younger. He’s not at all like Carth: protective soldier class; flirty but shy; sexy voice; older and more mature; definitely more buff (come on, you know I had to check out Atton in his undies, which resemble Carth’s–and, ladies and gentlemen, you all do the same thing, so don’t even think of calling me a freak!); even the ugly orange jacket is endearing, unlike “Atton’s Ribbed Jacket.” Yes, that’s what it’s called. As in “ribbed for her pleasure”? No, thanks.
- When I regained consciousness on Peragus II, I had to run around almost the entire time in just my underwear, to stupid Atton’s delight. And I swear, my PC put on weight. Her thighs look heavier. Also, if we thought the female scoundrel underwear was ugly in KotOR, these are worse. It’s still a one-piece and is cut like Carth’s underwear but in a hideous green color.
The whole time I’m like, looking for my lightsaber (as well as my clothes) only to learn on Citadel Station (CS) that I don’t have one! (CS is a space station above Telos and headquarters for the Telos restoration project led by Ithorians.) I get the option to ask Kreia how to build a lightsaber, and she says I already know how, that things will fall into place or some such cryptic answer. - Kreia warns me about being too merciful because although it strengthens me, it weakens the people I help out. I’m not sure what she means, exactly, but I’m interpreting it as being enabling. You know, like even though your character means well, you’re preventing the ones you’re helping from becoming independent.
- Now to the good stuff. I was ecstatic when I saw the holo replay of the Harbinger’s captain on the ship’s camera log–talking to Carth via holo! w00t!!!!! Carth is now Admiral Onasi. OMG, I love him!
He knows Sora is being transported to Telos aboard the Harbinger. He orders the captain not to check out some disturbance on Ondron and instead, head directly for Telos. Carth is concerned about the “cargo” and wants it to arrive unharmed.
I’m hoping, of course, that there’s a chance to pursue a romance with Carth, even though I’m certain he isn’t going to be a party member. But a girl should have choices! Why not allow the PC to have more than just one character available for the romantic side quest? Especially when someone like that annoying Atton Rand might be the only one to hook up with. >_<
Of course, it isn’t necessary to do the romance, especially since Jedi are discouraged from having attachments (more on that in an entry to be posted in the near future). But I just love Carth. Anyway, the PC doesn’t consider herself a Jedi, though she admits to beginning to feel the Force flow through her again on CS.
I’m dying to find out why Carth is so interested in her because I’m pretty sure she isn’t Revan, who BTW, ends up redeemed if Carth’s alive. Then again, he might still be interested if the PC’s male. Hmm…I wonder if he’s even alive if the PC’s male. Meh. Probably.
Anyway, I can’t wait to find Carth, except I have all this crap to do on CS. It remains to be seen how the quests I’ve completed so far are related to the main quest, if they’re related at all, but I want to accrue LS points. (I knew way beforehand that I’d play LS, though if there isn’t a Carth romance, I can easily be swayed to play DS.)
I find it ironic, for example, that I agree to help Lt. Grenn of the Telosian Security Force (TSF) after he and his men arrest my party as soon as we step off the EH. And no one seems to know where the EH is, for that matter, let alone poor T3! Plus, all our stuff is gone except for the credits we scavenged from the corpses on Peragus II.
Well, that’s all for now.

CR!! ^^ …I won’t say much about the pursuing a romance with Carth thing…I’ve beat the game, I know all now. Buuuut…you’ll get to talk to him eventually face-to-face.
*squeals in delight* He was the only charrie besides HK that I was dying to see again, and I did. I can die a happy woman now.

HK! ^^ <3 him the most of the droids. But…on a Carth related note yet again: When you talk to Carth face to face, the subtitles have his last name spelled wrong!!!
That really bugged me! I’m like…’Okay, is it *that* hard to get a good editor here?’ And it wasn’t the only typo…whole sentences were different from what the character was actually saying at times. And the Force wasn’t capitalized here and there. o.o I was rather shocked.
