A cat-o-bloggo Christmas

Brian and i thought about getting a Christmas tree today–a real one–the kind you cut down yourself at a tree farm out in the country.  i love real Christmas trees because they smell so…Christmasy.

the problem is, Basil and Hopper are plant munchers, and i don’t believe that needles would deter them.  in fact, desperate for a plant, i once had a cactus and though they didn’t eat it, Hopper often marked it with her face–with pleasure.

Basil drinks water from any possible source.  we don’t even use glasses anymore.  we drink pop directly from the can and water from a bottle, and we have to remind guests to put the toilet lid down.  anyway, i’m not so sure that a tree blanket would prevent him from drinking water out of the base.

when we’re away, one of the cats inevitably knocks the tree over.  do you have any idea how many round ornaments found their way into the front closet, having been batted there through the rather large crack between the floor and the door?  we still find some every once in a while.

i don’t know if this is true or not, but i’m paranoid that a real tree is more of a fire hazard.  for the same reason, we don’t string lights on the windows, "string" being the operative word.

i guess it’ll be another year with the fake little 3-ft. tree.  well, at least we can lift Basil over our heads and kiss under the "Basil-toe."

  1. And just think, you and Brian only have 2 cats! My mom’s got like 10 or so and she will probably never be able to get a real Christmas tree again. Poor ma.

  2. oops. actually, we have 4 cats. we didn’t put our tree up last year because of the new guy, Hee Seop. he was still very shy and we were afraid the tree might scare him. ^_^
