What About Di Re-enacted?

while surfing BlogExplosion today i came across this post at AT the HEART of IT, which mentions the new Web site that the British developed called JFK Reloaded and which inspired my own post.

for $10, you can download a first person shooter (FPS) video game in which you play Lee Harvey Oswald. the object is, obviously, to shoot John Kennedy. what’s worse is that there’s a competition in which contestants can win $100,000. the winner will be chosen based on who:

most closely match[es] the shots taken by Lee Harvey Oswald, as concluded in the Warren Commission Report on the assassination of JFK.

that would be like an American company developing a site called “Di Re-enacted” in which you use a mouse to drag the Mercedes and see how hard you can crash it in order to reconstruct the accident scene. the game would be something along the lines of Spank the Monkey.

report from NBC5.com below.

Friday’s Feast #25

Friday’s Feast

Appetizer How much money do you plan to spend this upcoming holiday season?
no more than the credit limit of the credit card we just applied for.

Soup What was the last television show you watched, and was it good?
last night i watched “Without a Trace.” although i love this show, in fact, chose it over “E.R.” this season, based on the advertisements, it looked like it was going to be a boring episode: a juror in a murder trial disappears. like that hasn’t been done before. but as Malone and company continue their search, they uncover more and more clues that lead them closer to the missing person while taking them farther away from the “facts” that they (and viewers) assumed provided motive for the disappearance.

Salad If you had to paint the walls of your living room tomorrow, what color would you choose?
i can’t think of a specific color, but i would choose something bright, fun, and sunny.

Main Course Name something clever or practical you have thought of that should be invented, but hasn’t yet.
i have no idea.

Dessert List 3 things you would like to receive as gifts this holiday season.

    • a digital camera
    • the Star Wars Trilogy DVDs
    • books, Xbox games, whatever

      Yoda: Dark Rendezvous

2? years after the Battle of Geonosis, Count Dooku invites Yoda to his stronghold in Vjun, a planet steeped in dark side power. Dooku, who is Yoda’s former student, seeks peace. The Jedi suspect it’s a trap, but Yoda accepts and travels undercover with two Padawans and their Masters.

Dark Rendezvous is the first novel in the Expanded Universe (EU) in which Yoda is the protagonist. Yoda’s and Dooku’s interior monologues reveal the nature of their relationship and Dooku’s childhood, including the choices he made that led him to where he is in the present–serving the dark side. An intriguing subplot involves the Padawans and Asajj Ventress, and is essential to the main plot.

This is a good effort for the author’s first Star Wars novel, but his use of the French language is anachronistic and undermines readers’ experience of being in a galaxy far, far away. That is, unless the French long ago colonized Vjun without our galaxy’s knowledge. Good storytelling.

      BrainStorm #90: Thanksgiving

      BrainStorm

Today is to most, a joyous holiday celebrated with good friends, loving family and lots of wonderful food. In reality today is the day we are to step back and take a look at our lives and all we have to be thankful for! Today I want you to make a list of all of the things that you are thankful for and tell us why if you would like to elaborate. If not thats ok too!

      1. my husband. the past year has been a difficult one in terms of my bipolarness. Brian has been here with me every step of the way, even though he’s suffering from a depressive episode himself. he has been patient and understanding and knows how to cheer me up when i’m down.

      2. our cats. our lives would be less rich if it weren’t for these 4. on those times we may be too broke to go out, Hopper, Basil, Angelo, and Hee Seop manage to entertain us even though they don’t realize it. caring for them is rewarding–you certainly don’t get anything back from a cat. =^.^= just kidding.

      3. my therapist and psychiatrist. both have helped me through this difficult time and continue to do so. if it weren’t for them, i don’t think i’d be as far along in my recovery as i am right now. they remain patient when i show my frustration that the depression has lasted so long, that i’d never had an episode take so long to subside. when i think that i’ll never get better, they help keep me afloat.

      4. my martial arts instructors. at the suggestion of both my therapist and psychiatrist, i took up martial arts in January, shortly after i was hospitalized for anxiety. unfortunately, i was back in the hospital 2 weeks later. when i was released, i continued going to my martial arts classes, which i enjoyed. unfortunately, my anxiety and depression grew worse and i stopped going at the end of February.

in July i finally got the courage to return and couldn’t make it through the class. after 20 minutes i was hot, dizzy, and nauseous. they suggested that i stay and watch, told me to take things gradually, not to push myself, and so on. although it was difficult for me just to get out of the house and get myself to class those first few weeks, my instructors continued to encourage me.

when i earned my yellow belt in the beginning of October, it was very symbolic for me. aside from moving up a rank, it signified how much i had accomplished physically and mentally since that day in July.

      Wednesday Weird Ones - Nov 24, 04

      Wednesday Weird Ones

      1. Why does Santa bring presents?
Santa brings presents because it’s his job.

      2. Why isn’t rooves the plural of roof?
actually, "rooves" is the plural for "roof."  however, after the Pilgrims migrated to the Americas, the plural form "roofs" came into use in defiance of King’s English.

      3. Why do too many cooks spoil the broth? Would too many accountants also spoil the broth? And if so, how many accountants is too many?
they say that too many cooks spoil the broth because there are many variations of the same recipe.  if these variations, however slight, are all incorporated into the broth, the end result would taste terrible.  too many different overpower the subtle nuances of each one and complicate what, by the very nature of broth, should be a simple flavor.

too many accountants would spoil the broth as well, and it only takes one accountant to do so.  broth, after all, is not an accountant’s specialty.

      4. In American football, why does the center have to snap the ball to the quarterback? Why doesn’t the quarterback just start with the ball?
if the quarterback were to start the game with the ball, there would be fewer chances of committing a penalty, which denies spectators the privilege of seeing pretty yellow flags float to the ground.

      5. Compare and contrast the food turkey with the country Turkey.
turkey the animal (or the dish) differs from Turkey the country because the former is mobile (hey–even a cooked turkey can be moved, with assistance); whereas, the latter is stationary.  note that the word used to describe turkey is the adjective "mobile," not the proper noun "Mobile."  also, "stationary" should not be confused with "stationery."  similarly, "turkey" and "Turkey" are alike in pronunciation but differ in spelling.

SITE OF THE WEEK: The Story of Why

this week’s featured site is The Story of Why. “Gladys Cortez” is a Chicago resident living on the West Siiiiiide!!! she describes her blog thus–that’s right, thus:

In defense of the unusual. This blog is being created to chronicle my reasons for many of the choices I’m making in my life; though this is one of those extremely-personal things, I suspect that more than one person has found himself/herself in the same situation I’m in, for different reasons.

read what the Chicago Tribune’s very own Eric Zorn has to say about Gladys’s blog (see link below).

yay, Gladys! the link to her blog is also under “Neighborhood Watch” in the righthand sidebar.

This Old House–Next Door (ready for the holidays)

they have added a chimney!  just in time for Santa if they finish the house before Christmas.

they’re building some kind of…something, which extends from the rear of the house.  a roof deck, maybe?  it’ll obstruct my view of The Drug Dealer’s backyard, and that’s probably just as well.  i only hope that it doesn’t block out the sun.
