Fake LEGOs???

As a collector of Star Wars LEGO sets, the following Reuters article really disturbs me. By the way, I originally saw this at Funkalicious (dead link, 10/31/05).

Record Haul of Fake Legos to Go Up in Smoke
Fri Nov 19, 2004 09:40 AM ET

HELSINKI (Reuters) - More than 10 tons of Chinese-made plastic toy bricks will go up in smoke when the largest customs haul of illegal imitation Legos ever seized is incinerated, a Finnish customs official said on Friday.

The bricks were crushed on Thursday and will be burned later to produce energy for the southern Finnish town of Lahti, the customs officer said. Scandinavian environmentalists shouldn’t worry: no toxins were found in the toys.

The phony Legos, totaling more than 54,500 fake sets, were seized by Finnish customs last year en route to Russia, said the Danish company that makes the genuine toys.

  1. lmao - too bad they don’t incinerate real Legos, too. *sigh* As a mother of three, I ***hate*** Legos. With a passion. There is no bribe in the world that will get three kids to clean up a million Lego pieces off the floor.

  2. Aw, hey–I love LEGOs! But yeah, it hurts when you step on one.

Unfortunately, I’ve had to dismantle my Museum of LEGO Star Wars Vehicles because my cats kept destroying them. Ah, well. Hmm…I should post a picture of the museum, back when it still existed.
